Early Learning

RELIGION: Teachers introduce students to the foundational truth that God loves them and created them with purpose. Through Bible stories, daily prayer, and classroom routines, students begin to understand who Jesus is and how to love others. Students learn how to pray together and begin forming habits of daily prayer.

READING: Students are introduced to the alphabet, letter recognition, and early phonemic awareness. Teachers use read-alouds and storytelling to build listening skills and comprehension.

LANGUAGE/WRITING: Students practice writing their names, forming letters, and expressing ideas through drawing and early writing.

MATH: Students learn to count, recognize numbers, and begin to understand patterns through hands-on activities.

PERFORMING ARTS: Students explore music through singing, rhythm, and movement.

STEM: Students engage in simple, hands-on exploration activities.

LIBRARY: Students attend weekly story time and participate in related activities.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION: Students develop coordination through structured and free play.

RECESS: Students have daily recess to build social skills and friendships.

Students begin developing confidence in speaking through poetry and recitation. They practice rhythm, expression, and clear speech while presenting simple poems to an audience.

Students are introduced to foundational prayers:

These prayers help students begin understanding God’s presence in their daily lives.

Students participate in classroom celebrations, school-wide activities, and a field trip to the local fire station. They are introduced to service through school projects.

RELIGION: Students are introduced to the foundations of the Catholic faith in simple and meaningful ways. They learn that Jesus is the Son of God and that He loves them. Students are introduced to key themes such as Creation, the Fall, and God’s love for all people. Students participate in weekly Mass and are introduced to the meaning of the Eucharist through age-appropriate instruction.

READING: Students build early literacy skills through letter recognition, phonics, and listening to stories. They are introduced to age-appropriate literature, including fiction, fairytales, and simple nonfiction texts. Students learn to recognize their name, identify letters and sounds, and understand basic parts of a book such as the author and illustrator.

LANGUAGE/WRITING: Students develop foundational writing skills, including correct pencil grip and forming letters and numbers. They begin expressing ideas through drawing and early writing. Teachers model correct grammar through conversation, helping students build language skills and confidence in communication.

MATH: Students develop number recognition and counting skills using one-to-one correspondence. They learn to distinguish between numbers and letters and begin to understand basic mathematical concepts through hands-on activities and guided practice.

HISTORY/SOCIAL STUDIES: Students are introduced to basic concepts of community, family, and the world around them. They explore simple history through Bible stories and learn that Jesus is a real historical figure. Students begin to understand that God is present throughout history and in their daily lives.

SCIENCE: Students explore the world around them through observation and hands-on experiences. Topics include plants, weather, and basic scientific concepts such as sink and float. Students engage in simple experiments, such as mixing materials (vinegar and baking soda), to build curiosity and understanding.

PERFORMING ARTS: Students engage in pretend play, storytelling, and simple performances that build confidence, language skills, and social interaction. Activities include role-playing, puppet shows, and acting out familiar stories.

ART: Students explore creativity through hands-on and sensory-based art experiences such as finger painting, sponge painting, and color mixing. The focus is on exploration and expression rather than a final product.

STEM: Students are introduced to early STEM concepts through observation, exploration, and playful discovery. Activities include observing nature, experimenting with materials, and exploring how things work.

TECHNOLOGY: Students are introduced to basic technology skills through guided activities such as interactive smart board lessons and simple digital engagement.

SPANISH/WORLD LANGUAGE: Students are introduced to Spanish through counting, days of the week, and simple vocabulary, building early exposure to language and culture.

LIBRARY: Students visit the library weekly for story time and small group activities that build a love of reading and listening skills.

FAITH FORMATION: Students learn about prayer, Mass, and the life of Christ through daily routines and classroom instruction. They begin to understand that Jesus loves them and that faith is part of everyday life.

RECESS: Students have daily opportunities for play, movement, and social development. Recess supports physical growth, cooperation, and relationship-building.

Students begin developing confidence in speaking through poetry and recitation. They practice rhythm, expression, and clear speech while presenting simple poems to an audience.

Students begin to learn and memorize foundational prayers:

Pre-K 4 traditions focus on building comfort, joy, and connection to school.

Students participate in Christmas and Spring performances, building confidence and a sense of belonging. Field studies include visits to the school garden and the local fire station, where students connect classroom learning to real-world experiences.

Students also participate in service opportunities, including supporting school-wide projects, raising funds to help others, and creating cards or small gifts for older students preparing for sacraments. These experiences help students begin to understand how they can care for others and be part of a larger community.
