FAITH FORMATION & RELATIONSHIP WITH CHRIST: Teachers guide students in coming to know Jesus and understanding that they are loved by Him. Through daily prayer, Scripture, and classroom life, students learn about God as Creator, Jesus as Savior, and the Church as a community of believers. Students are consistently reminded that they are loved and belong to God. Faith is lived out through prayer, modeling virtues, and participation in Weekly Mass.

HISTORY: Teachers introduce students to their world, community, and country. Students begin to understand how people lived in the past and how faith connects to how we live today through values, choices, and relationships.

READING: Students grow as readers by developing phonological awareness, phonics skills, and sight word recognition. They move from identifying letters and sounds to reading simple patterned texts. Teachers use a wide range of literature including fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and traditional stories to build comprehension and a love of reading.

LANGUAGE/WRITING: Students develop early writing skills through drawing, labeling, and writing simple sentences. They practice letter formation, phonetic spelling, and begin expressing ideas clearly through words and pictures.

SCIENCE: Students explore foundational science concepts such as motion, plants and animals, and Earth systems. Through hands-on activities like rolling objects, observing nature, and simple experiments, students begin understanding the world around them.

MATH: Students build strong number sense through counting, recognizing numbers, and solving simple addition and subtraction problems. They explore shapes, patterns, measurement, and sorting while learning to explain their thinking.

PERFORMING ARTS: Students participate in music, storytelling, and classroom performances such as Christmas and Spring concerts.

SPANISH: Students build vocabulary through counting, days of the week, and basic conversational words.

ART: Students explore creativity through drawing, painting, and hands-on art experiences.

STEM: Students engage in hands-on exploration using STEM bins and discovery-based activities.

TECHNOLOGY: Students are introduced to basic technology skills, including using classroom programs and devices.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION: Students develop coordination, movement, and teamwork through regular physical activity.

LIBRARY: Students visit the library weekly to listen to stories and select books to take home.

RECESS: Students have multiple recess breaks throughout the day to support physical and social development.

Students attend Weekly Mass and participate alongside their 6th grade buddies. They learn the structure of the Mass and begin participating in prayer and responses.

POETRY PRESENTATION: Students memorize and present poems using clear voice, expression, and rhythm. They begin developing confidence in speaking and presenting in front of others.

Students learn and pray:

• Guardian Angel Prayer
• Grace Before Meals
• Grace After Meals

Students also participate in daily prayer and begin memorizing foundational prayers of the Church.

Students participate in:

• Speech Program
• Faith Families
• Litter patrol and service activities
• Buddy programs with older students

Field experiences may include visits to the fire station and children’s museum, helping students connect learning to real-life experiences.
